Capitol Hill Modern Craftsman
Tradition meets modern with this beautiful 1908 Craftsman home on Capitol Hill. The owners felt caged in and separated from neighbors by the existing imposing steel fence in the front. They also had difficulty gardening under the gorgeous mature London Plane trees on the planting strip. Solution: open up the front entry with raised custom steel garden beds and provide a courtyard character which more modern touches. In the back, the existing lawn was trampled by the dogs, had poor drainage, and the living space was lacking privacy. Solution: Create a new outdoor dining room, custom steel privacy panels, raised steel planters, and new fire pit ‘room’ with built-in seating. The results are both super functional and unique with custom detailing and craftsmanship fitting the character of this fine old house.
